Kettering Juniors

Here at Kettering Hockey Club we pride ourselves on doing the best we can for our Junior members. They are the future of our club after all.

In September 2010 two new coaches took over the running of the junior section, Laura Cave a Level 1 coach and Chris Randle who is soon to be accredited with his Level 2 coaching award, both of whom are lifetime members of Kettering Hockey Club and still play for our Ladies 1st and Men’s 1st teams respectively.

Our senior Club Coach, Ian Hughes-Rowlands , a level 3 accredited coach, an ex-Welsh International and who has played at the highest standard of hockey is also available to provide the necessary support and guidance to provide the very best for our juniors.

Since the start of the 2010 – 2011 season the numbers at our junior section have increased with many more U11 joining the club and enjoying playing the sport.

We hope to continue this growth by getting into schools in the local area and attracting more school age children to Kettering, which is the best time to gain their interest in the sport.

Along with these two lead coaches we have a number of club members who kindly give their time to aid junior training. This therefore means more coaches per child and therefore more chance for your child to receive some one on one attention to become the best they can be in the sport.

All our coaches and helpers are CRB checked.

We have U11 and U13 7-a-side mixed teams who play on alternate Sundays during the season. We hope by introducing them to playing games at this young age will get them used to being in a game situation and will progress their skills and control on the ball much quicker.

We also have a girls U18 team who this season are competing in the Moulton College U18 Girls League. We are currently at the top of the table, and look forward to continuing this form. Please find a link to the table at the bottom of this page so you can track our progress and success.

The progression of our juniors is of paramount importance to Kettering Hockey Club. With this in mind we aim to prepare our U15s to move into the adult training session as soon as they are able after reaching the age of eligibility (13), a rule imposed to all clubs by England Hockey.

This year, for the first time, we have also put into place an ‘Elite Junior Progression Squad’ within the Ladies section, which encompasses the juniors between the ages of 13 and 15 who have moved up into our adult training squads. This Progression Squad is trained by our Ladies 1st team coach Ian Hughes-Rowland, who can offer his invaluable expertise and support to our younger members.

If you or your child has an interest in hockey and would like to join or just wants to know more please feel free to call or text Laura Cave (Junior Manager, Ladies 1st team captain) on 07841 713425.
